Caring for Orphans, Reaching out, and Expecting miracles

Mission Statement:

C.O.R.E Ministry will glorify God by touching hearts with His calling to the Christian community to look after and care for orphans.

Purpose:

C.O.R.E Ministry will offer programs/events and information designed to build awareness among church members and the community about the ministry of orphan care and adoption.

Who Are the Orphans?

This Ministry has chosen to define an Orphan as any child that is parentless and/or is not in a safe, secure & loving environment. In short, orphans are children who for whatever reason have found themselves in need of permanent and loving families. And for such children, being taken in through the “spirit of adoption” is their greatest need!

The FACTS

Orphans face a world without family– without hope. If you speak to those children growing up in orphanages, foster homes and on the street, you will find that they talk of family and belonging. Many hope that their parents will return for them or that someone new will come to love them. Most significant of all is that they have no father to guide them; no mother to love them; and no one to celebrate their accomplishments.

The world is in crisis – if nothing changes…nothing changes. And it is a crisis involving a population which is extremely precious to the heart of God– orphans. The problem of nearly 150 million orphans will not be solved by one group, one church or one denomination.

· The answer lies in great numbers of believers from many places gathering together, creatively finding solutions, to solve small pieces of the orphan plight…and saving lives one-by-one! God says that He is the Father of the fatherless; orphans are part of His royal family. He has asked us, the church, to be His hands extended and to love these children on His behalf!

WHAT CORE DOES

Ministry Goals:

1. Inspire: Cast the vision of the “spirit of adoption” and God’s heart for orphans.

2. Equip/Educate: Provide assistance and resources for those interested in adoption and/or orphan care.

3. Encourage: Assist families pursuing foster care or adoption through personal & family support, prayer groups, seminars, and financial aid.

THE Statistics

Global orphans:

Over 140 million orphans and waiting children under the age of 18 have lost one or both parents.

Over 15 million children have lost a parent due to AIDS, and that number is expected to rise to over 20 million by 2010.

Orphaned children are much more likely than non-orphans to be working in commercial agriculture, as street vendors, in domestic service and in the sex trade.

Orphans are more vulnerable and at risk of becoming victims of violence, exploitation, trafficking, discrimination, or other abuses.

Domestic orphans:

Here in Grant County a little over 300 children are in foster care.

More than 500,000 children are in United States foster care.

Over 120,000 children in foster care are waiting to be adopted.

Scripture:

O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear
To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,
So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror

Psalm 10:17-18

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisioners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Psalms 68:5-6

Relligion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their disstress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

James 1:27

“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me”

Matthew 18:5

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives dor our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

1 John 3: 16-18

He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.

Deuteronomy 10:18
